Where in the World?!

Have I been absent from the writing world because I’ve had nothing to say and have been leading a boring hermit life? Well I don’t think so…. Life has actually been quite busy and chaotic. The down days I have had have been mainly restorative; getting over jet lag, planning the next adventure, catching up on sleep. The chaos I might add, is completely by choice.

So where am I and what has been going on? Well one thing I’ll say, there hasn’t been much cooking going on at all. With the exception of a couple days in August, I think it was May the last time I really cooked. What’s wrong with me?! I do miss it and hopefully I’ll be back at it soon.

In November last year, I knew I was going to be away from Australia for awhile, visiting family and consumed with work trips, so I decided to give up my beloved month-to-month fully furnished apartment that I lived in for well over a year. All of my little bits went into the storage unit and I packed my bags. I was going to be away for a minimum of three months so I didn’t want to be paying for a space that I wasn’t using. It made sense.

My US travels were wonderful. I got to spend a lot of time with both my mom and my sister. My sister and I went up to Boston where I got to see, not one, but two Bruins games and we brought back home 3 live lobsters on the plane for Christmas Eve dinner. They were delicious. My sister and I did our somewhat annual gingerbread house build which is always filled with colourful four letter words, laughing and sugar shock. So much fun.

And then it was on to the work travels which are always a lot of fun because I see my friends around the country but it is busy and exhausting and so much work. I did get to hit up Denver to see some friends and go to the rodeo before I jetted up to Seattle to prepare for the annual Mexico trip. Can I just tell you how much Seattle sucked this February? So much snow and the city just isn’t equipped to handle it. I got snowed in for days and very nearly ran out of food, but nonetheless I survived.

Somewhere along the way, I decided to take a week off from work after Mexico and then take the long way home to Australia. I went east instead of west, and well, I haven’t really made my way home just yet. It’s been an adventure and I’m eager to tell you more about it. The original thought was to tell you about each city and the things I’ve been cooking, however, as mentioned, I haven’t been cooking as much as I thought I would be. However, I do want to share my adventures with you so I think I’ll do a post or two for each of the places I’ve been. I have some catch up to do! What else is new?

The general structure of my travels has been one city/one country every four weeks. I still work full time, as I’m a telecommuter, so my weekdays and some nights are occupied with that, but most nights and weekends are spent living like a local and exploring. I’ve been snapping some photographs here and there and trying to practice and develop my own personal style. And of course, I’ve been trying new restaurants as often as possible, much to the detriment of my wallet and waistline!

I hope you tune back in to hear my stories. The photos included here are just a little sample of what I’ve seen. I have so much more to share with you. At the time of writing this I have been to Northern Ireland, Scotland, Budapest Hungary, Paris France (with a side trip to Reims), Naples Italy (with a weekend in Sorrento), Bucharest Romania, and Bulgaria. Lots of highs and lows to tell you all about. Life on the road is not always glamorous as we want it to be.
