Chuck Steak Shepherd’s Pie
It has been quite cold the past week. The cold and rainy weather is making me crave all things comfort food and the other night the comfort dish I was craving was Shepherd’s Pie. But I really wasn’t wanting Shepherd’s Pie with ground beef so I decided to give it a go with chuck steak instead. It took a bit longer than if I had used ground beef but the result was so worth it and the hands on time was minimal. Alternatively this is a great way to use up leftover pot roast.
This is a really savory rich dish and is great leftover for lunch the next day. You all know how it goes….. Rich beef in gravy layered on the bottom with a middle layer of sweet baby peas and topped off with buttery delicious mashed potatoes with little crispy bits on the top. If you find you have quite a bit leftover, chill in the fridge overnight. The next day slice into portions, wrap each portion into cling wrap and freeze the wrapped portions in a freezer bag.
Today, I think I’ll just let the pictures tell the story and get straight to the recipe….
I hope you give this a try and be sure to let me know how you like it!

It is comfort food to the max! I love winter food. And winter clothes…. to hide all the winter weight…. 😉

This is a really wonderful family meal. And like you say, just perfect for the wet and cold conditions. Your pie looks fabulous. I’ve only ever made it with minced lamb – I’ll have to try the chuck steak xx

It was very satisfying. If you do give it a go, I hope you enjoy it!

I usually use lamb for shepherd’s pie but your version sounds delicious made with the chuck steak which is readily available in the markets and much more reasonably priced than lamb.
